What is the usual procedure for the
determination of (S)-metolachlor (CAS RN 87392-12-9) and metolachlor (CAS RN 51218-45-2) mixures.

First of all why make things difficult, do the separation with HPLC using a chiral column . (Chiralpak AS , solvent Heptane /Ethanol ).
If you do need to use the GC then you will also need a chiral column . Theoretical Kovats Indice Io: 1871 dI 1.917 In addition to this add the chiral-separation -value of your Column.
Is = Io + (dI* polarity of column.)+ Chiral value of Column *Chiral-factor of Metolachlor (assume as 1)
You will end up with an Is of around 2000 to 2400. Is 2400 is about limit for the column as the chiral separation value goes down with increasing temperature. The chiral separation capability of your column (Chiral -Val-D from J&W or similar) should be around 100 units. The two peaks will probably be not more than 5-10 Indices apart.
