Dear All
Is there any one that can give me a hand
with a method to anlyse diacetyl. it would
have to with fid or ecd.
Does anybody has an idea of the detection
limits using FID or ECD?
Carlos

Detectors certainly have limits. You can help them a lot with your choice of columns and gas components. Whatever the detection limit on a packed column with an FID is for your compound, it will be much better with a megabore column. The detection limits will be even better again if you use a true capilary column. Whatever the detection limit with an FID is for your compound with nitrogen as carrier, it will be much better with helium as carrier and make-up gas, if you are not using a packed column. The detection limits will be even better again, so long as you are not using a packed column, if you use hydrogen as carrier and nitrogen as make-up gas. I also find that solvent focusing of my analytes with a SPI injector will help improver the lower detection limit. The sharper the peak the lower the detection limit.
