I have two documents (Adobe PDF) on my web site about derivatization that you might find useful. One is the identification of artifacts (undesirable by-products) and ways to avoid them.
The other is easy ways for making diazomethane and using diazomethane. Also describe methods for methylation with trimethysilyldiazomethane. In addition, artifacts are discussed for these tow reagents.
