Does anybody know how to synthetize diazoEthane (not diazoMEthane)to derivatize carboxilic acids?
In fact, I am interested in producing ethyl-abscisic acid, to be used as injection standard for GC/ECD. I hope somebody can help.
Thanks in advance to you all.

I haven't ever used diazomethane or diazoethane for esterification of carboxylic acids, but I've made ethyl esters of fatty acids. I started with 99.7% ethanol (such as formula 40B 200 proof) and used a little H2SO4 as acid catalyst, and dissolved/heated on steam bath a few minutes, cooled, then extracted into petroleum ether and used NaCl/H2O to force the layers to separate, and injected the petroleum ether extract into GC.

Check into Aldrich´s N-ethyl-N´-nitro-N-nitrosoguanidin (#E4,160-5) and their refs under 1-methyl-3-nitro-1-nitrosoguanidin (#12,994-1).
