Need some help: any idea about how to assay residual isobutanol in a anthracenedione-base dye? I injected a 0.1mg/ml solution of isobutanol but did not see a peak. The uv cut-off is 204nm... Any suggestions?

I would use a GC system. Not sure if headspace injection would work.

Agree with Anonymous above; GC is better for your application, don't always assume HPLC is best tool for everything: use the appropriate instrument for the job at hand. Likely you could use anywhere from polar (Carbowax-type) to nonpolar methyl silicone-type capillary for this and be OK.

Thanks, isobutanol has a small vapor pressure but worth a try.

Anonymous (1st post)-
We routinely run isobutanol in our lab by headspace GC. Use Supelco OVI-G43 30m x 0.53mm.
INJ=130C, DET=250C
Oven: init=40C, hold 1 min then ramp 8C/min to 110C
FID detector
Headspace:
Oven=100C
Needle=120C
transfer=130C
thermostat for 20 min
