Hi all.
I'm trying to analyze mixtures including C1-C6 linear primary alcohols using a Shimadzu GC14-A with an FID. My question is: how would you expect the response factor for the various alcohols to vary as a function of carbon chain length? Increase? Decrease? No change?
Thanks very much!

The longer chain alcohols will have a higher response to the FID based on weight/vol, just like hexane has a higher response than does methane.

The addition of an internal standard ie ethylene glycol dimethyl ether would work better than response factors for quantification.
