Can someone please clear this up? What is the difference between FID jets for packed vs. capillary column? Are the "wider bore" jets for capillary?
Thanks in advance,
Jeff

Usually the jets for packed analysis are larger, since there is a higher flow rate and larger mass of sample on column.

For Agilent FIDs: capillary FID jets have wider bores ("tails") so that the capillary columns can be inserted into them (push all the way up until it contacts, then pull back 1 or 2 mm and tighten). Their packed-column FID jets have narrower "tails". Note: I'm not talking about the diameter of the top tip here.

Anons-
Thanks for the info. We do indeed have Agilent GC's in our lab with both packed and capillary columns. You've cleared up some confusion on our part.
