HELP!!!! I am trying to detect substituted amides present in a primary amide. This is a C36 amide, and the response is LOW. I am using GC with a capillary column, and I am having no luck...what can I do?

You need to be more specific... C36 amide on FID should respond well on any non-polar column. Use a short column, fast flow, high starting temp as a start.
