for derivatisation purposes we use acetanhydride to identify morphine in drug urins.
Can anybody tell me if the resulting substance of the acetylation is only diacetylmorphine or also 6-acetylmorphine(heroin) or both.

Depending upon the conditions used, both could be formed.

heroin is the diacetylmorphine, the
6-acetylmorphine is the incomplete reaction.
