I need to find a good way to do daily system suitability check on my
6890/5973 GC-MS. The column is an HP-Innowax. The analytes are VOCs in MeOH
(injected not purged). 1,3-butadiene, isoprene, acrylonitrile, benzene,
toluene, styrene, pyridine and quinoline.
I tried using the tuning std used for EPA 8270 but had no luck. Really
lousy.Possibly, does not work on a wax column. For those who don't know, the
mix contains pentachlorophenol and benzidine for tailing and DDT for breakdown.
It also contains decafluorotriphenylphosphine, but it is not relevant to me.
If anyone knows of alternatives please suggest.

Homiyar,
How about making an injection of your standard mix and calculating peak resolutions and peak tailing or asymetry. Just keep a running log of the values and monitor the changes. When they become "unacceptable" you know to do some sort of maintenance on the system or column or ???.

Mark
