We need to analyse teriary amines (di & tri) in river water at low ppm level. The problem is that below 20 ng, the adsorption effects prevent accurate calibration & analysis. Is it possible to derivatize teriary amines, or to minimize the adsorption effects by the addition of other amines?

There are specific columns developed for amine analysis. Latest one is bonded phase called CP-Sil 8 for amines. It elutes the primary and diamines very nicely; Also alkanolamines. Tertiary amines should not be any problem. Depending on the volatility, you may choose a thin or a thick film.
If you sent the range of components to the helpdesk(helpdesk.us@varianinc.com or helpdesk.eu@varianinc.com), they will share the information on the application with you.

Jaap, the performance of this column is really good.We had symmetrical peaks down to 1ng injection.
