I need to know how sodium acetate can be analysed by a GC column. What kind of mobile phase should I be using?

Teresa,
Please post your message on the LC forum. GC is not normally useful to analyse sodium acetate.

Hi Teresa
We are not normal !
Sodium acetate can easily be converted quantitatively into Methylacetate using Methanol and Sodiumhydrogensulfate and then analysed by headspace GC. The sample preparation take less than a minute pr sample and sub-ppm levels can be measured. We use the method rutinely to monitor acetate and formate in low levels. Revert if you want details.
