ion trap is more sensitive than quadrupole it depend's on you're needs and sensitivity requirements GOOD LUCK

Going to use a database for mass spectra library searching? You might want to forget ion traps. From what I understand their spectra don't correlate very well if at all with the electron impact spectra from "flight" instruments. But I'm only 98% certain. An expert in ion traps should comment.

Traps have historically have been dubbed more sensitive than quad's. I wonder if that is still true compared to the Agilent 5973. The 5973 is very, very sensitive.

Ion traps are not inherently more sensitive than quads. I have had samples run on an ion trap by the manufacturer, then have obtained better sensitivity on a quad. Operator skill and understanding of the instrument and the way it should be operated can have a large effect on sensitivity.
