We are currently considering purchasing a Turbomass MSD for analysis of VOC's in water. We have a Turbomatrix and an Autosystem XL and intend to use Purge and Trap onto the tubes of the Turbomatrix and analyse by GC/MS. Our VOC's range from alcohols (Meoh, Etoh and IPA)to Toluene and Monochlorobenzene. We would have to find these down to ppb levels. If anyone has experience of using a similar setup I would appreciate any advice. Thanking you in advance.

I would look at the sensitivity of the Agilent 5973. The instrument I have is very sensitive. I can detect xylene, phenol and 2,4-xylenol down to 2ppb using a 2uL splitless injection, SIM and EM at +400 above autotune. The instrument only needs to be tuned about 4x a year.
