I was hoping someone could help me in determining which GC-MS would be best suited for my classroom. I teach high school chemistry and need to purchase a good teaching GC-MS, it need not be top of the line. I am also interested in used or refurbished GC-MS's if anyone knows of a reliable dealer. Thanks in advance.

I'd suggest Agilent/HP 5890 with 5971/5972 MSD. For used, try Alpha Omega or Quantum Analytics. Be aware that some of these (such as one of mine) work still (and well) on Windows 3.11 using a 486 computer, and your students likely will never have heard of Windows 3.1.

Wow! GC-MS in high school chemistry. My high school could barely afford beakers and Bunsen burners. Just curious what state and/or geographical location you teach in?

Tell me what school district and how much do teachers make there! I am interested in any HS who thinks a GC-MS is an affordable item, much less a GC !
