Does anyone have experience with LC/MS measurement of organic salt? Should I transform this salt to acid form or just do it as a salt form? ESI(+) or ESI(-)?

I run organic acids and amines in -ESI using an ion exchange separation with IC-MS. For example a Dionex AS11 column with hydroxide eluent, using a suppressor, will separate many organic acids. They are then detected usually as monovalent anions ie tartrate is monoprotic in this detection scheme. The suppressor removes nonvolatile eluent components as well as counterions. Detection limits are in the range of 0.5-2 ppb for most organic acids. Organic amines are detected then in +ESI. This is also IC-MS using Dionex cation columns such as CS12A-MS, with a suppressor to remove the nonvolatile eluent components and minimize signal suppression. In either case you can inject them as salts and the IC process will separate and detect them as anions or cations.
