Hi, everyone,

I used to check sci.technique.mass-spec under google-group---sci-technique---mass-spec. For the past few days, I have not been able to see that group any more. There usd to be 6 groups under sci.technique. Now there are only two. Could anyone help me out? Is something wrong with my server (private Rogers, corporate Telus in Canada, both high speed) or with the Google?

Thanks!

This web-based service has a few of the most recent posts, so the group apparently still exists:

http://www.news2web.com/cgi-bin/dnewsweb.exe?cmd=xover&group=sci.techniques.mass-spec

Maybe Google is having problems or stopped carrying it?

Another suggestion would be to install a newsreader program (there are free and shareware programs available for download). I recommend Free Agent or XNews, if they are still available. You'll have to find out from your ISP the name of your news server.

I am totally lost in the forrest of mass spectrometry. I would appreciate some basic information about the (so many) different mass detectors, single quad, triple quad, API ESI, TOF.... what they are and the utilities they are intended for...
What I really need is a review article in LC-GC !!!!

For anonymous:
a good place to start would be the books,
I'd try J. Throck Watson's book. Otherwise there is a review of MS in LC-GC:
Choi BK, Hercules DM, Zhang TL, Gusev AI
LC GC NORTH AMERICA
: S24-+ Suppl. S MAY 2003
There's just too much info to put into a message
Best of Luck
Jim

for anonymous #1:
look at those sites:
www.spectroscopynow.com
www.separationsnow.com
www.lcgceurope.com or www.chromatographyonline.com

Thanks a lot

I check sci.techniques.mass-spec regularly and find it a very useful resource on LC-MS. I am aware that LCMS.com and ASMS.org have some discussion forums. However, they are small and not so useful. Are there other useful Usenet Discussion Forums on LC-MS or mass spec?

Thanks for your input!

J L Shen
