Hello friends

I am a student working polycyclic aromatic hydrocarbon in soils using gas chromatography : flame ionization detector (FID)and mass selective detector( MSD).

I observed that the results (quanitative ) obtained for each samples by both detector are different. What could account for this variation?

Is it expected?

Comparing both FId & MSD , which is expected to give a higher quantitative value , if the results must not be the same?

Is there any correlation factor ( equation) that could be used to related the output of both detectors ?

Are there papers done on the comparison of the quanititative out put of both detectors?

Info on the above quations could e-mail me directly too. as I just stormed on this web site and i am not too conversant on how to retrieve responses yet.

my e-mail is : ikolo111@yahoo.com

I appreciate response as this is very critical for the progress of my work.
