We are plannig to buy an Ion trap instrument. The two choice we have are
BRUKER ESQUIRE 4000(upgrade of ESQ 2000)
Agilent MSDTrap SL
Can anyone suggest me a price range for those two with the Agilent 1100 as front end?
How are these two instruments?
I would really appreciate the readers view in this regard.
Thanks.

Plese dont make this forum a joker's paradise, If anyone of us know the answer of his question lets try to help him.
I think Agilent MSD SL is a good trap. The price with 1100 as a front end should be abt $ 150,000
I have no idea abt Bruker though.
Good luck!
Brian

We don't have an SL, but we have the Agilent MSD Trap XCT. I've been pretty happy with it. We don't have a modern Bruker, so I can't give an informed opinion as to which is better. It is my understanding that the Bruker and Agilent traps both employ a mass analyzer designed by Bruker, and an ion source designed by Agilent, and that the main differences are therefore software, support, and price (if any). I am not knowledgeable about the prices.

Regarding the price range. Get some quotes from the vendors, you are under no obligation to buy, and then you know the price. Every company and every country has different discount levels applied to pricing, so even asking on a forum like this can only lead to mis-information. And finally ALL prices are negotible, if they want the sale bad enough, the price will drop (even if only a few percent. I will also say, do not just buy on price, make sure you are getting the tool that meets all of your needs, even if it costs a little bit more.
