Just wanted to know if anyone knows of an MS detector that could be coupled to either a GC or LC instrument? I know that if such a detector exists there would have to be different interfaces for the two instruments. We are in the midst of purchasing a GC-MS and thought if there was an MS detector available that we could couple to either our GC or HPLC, depending on our application, we would get much more utitlity out of our investment.

Hiya,
If you havent already contacted them - try Micromass. They have a "Platform MS" which would interface with both LC and GC.
I havent really heard of any others!
I hope this is of some help.

For a comprehensive WWW directory for all MS, including GCMS and LCMS, try:

http://base-peak.wiley.com/msi/index.html

There should be many choices. You might also try Bear Instruments:

or Agilent:
