Training:
Peptide and Protein Characterization
with Mass Spectrometry
What
does it cover?
Protein analyses employing LC/electrospray/MS and MALDI techniques are
revolutionizing the world of biotechnology and are quickly becoming
important in any field where peptide or protein characterization is
used. This two-day course provides both the analytical chemist and the
biochemist with the fundamentals of how a protein can be characterized
with MS to provide molecular weight, sequence, and identity
information. We introduce more advanced concepts as well, such as
post-translational modification analysis and charge derivitization.
The two-instructor format maintains the pace and energy level of the
class and provides two complimentary viewpoints on the problems
encountered in the lab. Techniques for optimizing protein LC/MS methods
and selecting MALDI matrices also make this a practical class for the
scientist who wants to begin using these techniques right away.
For the student who has no mass spectrometry experience, we recommend
completing the self-paced computer training program "Introduction to Peptide and Protein Analysis
with Mass Spectrometry."
Instructors: Fred Klink and Jack Throck Watson
This
course is offered several times throughout the year in various
locations. It can also be presented in-house and customized to meet
your precise needs.
