As seen in the examples above, HPLC equipment comes in a bewildering array of configurations. Despite the apparent complexity, however, the majority of HPLC systems are based on a common underlying design as shown at the right. The details may differ, but once you have mastered the operation of one HPLC system, learning how to use the others is usually easy.


 
     
In this section, we will:
  • describe in more detail each of the basic components or modules common to all HPLC instruments
  • discuss the requirements for connecting tubing to hook the modules together
  • describe some precautions necessary to keep the modules and the system performing as they should.
