Please can someone help! We have been trying to analyse nemoycin sulphate in a new pharmaceutical product without success. The only reference we have is using an OPA derivatisation procedure and then using a buffer methanol mix (96:4) on a C18 column. We have had no luck at all. Any suggestions welcome. Thank you.

In a recent review article (JAOAC 1999 82(5), pg 1017) chromatographic methods for aminoglycoside antibiotics are discussed. The bad news is OPA derivatisation followed by reverse phase using acetate buffers with ACN or MeOH are the usual methods. The paper might give you a few insights and ideas what to try next.
Good Luck

Try using FMOC derivatization. There is an article by D. Stead in J of Chromatography about 1993 (?) that describes a procedure for the analysis of gentimicin sulfate in blood and urine.
