Folks,

I looking for information with regard to ELSD detectors. Who makes good ones, what specs should I look for, and whom should I stay away from? Also, does anyone that has a good one that they'd like to trade for a very seldom used waters 464 ECD with Ag electrode?

I'd be running this on an older Waters system (600e pump, 717 autosampler) and my software is the current versome of Millennium, if you need to know.

Thanks in advance!

Chris

Hi Chris,

Sedere, Polymer Labs, Eurosep and Alltech are
the current makers of this type of detector.
All the ELSD's have strengths and weaknesses.
Some more than others, perhaps.
One may be better at low temperature applications
while another may be better for very hi temperature applications.
While, another claims to be good at both.
Kind of like the ol' MacIntosh vs IBM question!
Basically, get one of each and test them for
limits of detection and RSD for your particular
application and see who wins!

Chris,

I have some older Elsd's available for sale,
trade or whatever your budget will support.
I'll bet you probably didn't expect to get all this attention!

I have had a chance to look various ELS detectors, They all have one common weakness, Their response is not linear, Usually you can fit a log-log curve, but signal intensity also varies with compound volatility, Molecular mass and temperature. They should only be used for Extenal standard methods
