I'm looking for a method to analyze these two compounds by HPLC. Alpha lipoic is also called thioctic acid. Any suggestions????

Take a look at this method :

column - nucleosil 100-7 C18 120x 4.0 mm
eluent - acetonitrile/phosphoric acid 0.01 M
gradient : t0' 25 % CH3CN
t15' 40 % CH3CN
UV - 210 nm
flow - 2.0 ml/min
sample concentration - 0.4 mg/ml
temperature - 35°C
injection volume - 20 ul

Here is a method retrieved from the Applications Database in ACD/ChromManager:

column - Chromspher UOP 1.5 C18
eluent - methanol/0.05 M Na-octanesulfonate,
0.005 M Et3NH-phosphate
gradient: t0' 5% MeOH t2' 15% MeOH
UV - 220 nm
flow - 1.0 mL/min
temperature - 30 C

The method is based on thioctic acid, not Pregnenolone.
ACD/LC Simulator predicts a long retention time for Pregnenolone, however. You may wish to run the gradient up to a higher % MeOH based on this.

Hope that this helps.

Best regards,

Mike.
