I am looking for sensitiv methods to determinate
protein in Alginate. ( HPLC? )
Have someone worked to determinate protein in alginate ?
Thank you for your advice.
Andrew.

we generically "determined protein" in a similar material by analyzing for nitrogen with a nitrogen analyzer. Of course anything else that contains amines and amides will interfer, but this was not a problem in our case. It worked quite nicely with low detection limits. There are also various colorimetric reagents for protein.

If you wish to use HPLC, try the chromatography under limiting conditions of adsorbtion (LCA).I think, you can find the method description at ChemWeb.com. If no, submitt your message to the Forum once again. I will try to help you with references on LCA

We determine Protein with the Lowry method. Chemicals are from Sigma. The Lowry method is very easy to perform. I think you should do this assay first, before trying any HPLC method. By the way, are you performing any HPLC on alginate? This would be very interesting for me. Please contact me...
