Does anyone have any experience with "bulk capture" purification of a reaction product? In other words, the crude product is mixed with column packing material, like C18 silica gel, in a "mobile phase" mixture that will allow the silica to retain the desired product but leave many impurities in solution. The silica is filtered and then re-mixed with a stonger solvent to desorb the purified product. Does anyone know of a reference regarding this technique? I'm trying to eliminate a long chromatographic purification step in the manufacture of a semisynthetic pharmaceutical. Any guidance would be appreciated. Thanks!

We have experience with a number of bulk capture projects. They can be very effective for pilot and process scale because product can be purified up to 1 gram/gram of silica media compared to 0.1 or much less for traditional chromatography.
I'd be happy to dig up some of the data for you.
