Could I use THF to wash a C18 column daily? The reason I am trying THF is that THF might be the only good solvent for the suspected contaminates on the column.

Thanks for the attention and suggetion.

I don't see why this would present any problem as long as you're careful to thoroughly wash any buffer salts out of your system prior to washing through with 100%THF.

How much PEEK tubing do you have in your system? THF does affect PEEK, and it may not be wise to wash with THF on a frequent basis. I emphasise that this is not from personal experience, but from chemical compatability tables.
Hope this helps.

We had a problem where our mobile phase pH was close to the lower acceptable range for the column (a phenyl phase) and a THF rinse was enough to rapidly strip the bonded phase from the column while an acetonitrile rinse did not.

Are you contemplating pumping pure TFA? If so, this procedure raises some worrisome safty issues. If you were my lab mate I would insist you move the operation to a hood. Suggest reading MSDS on TFA.

Time for a new eyeglass prescription, Bill. It was THF, not TFA. 8-)
