Hi,
I want to know if is possible to determinate oleic by capilary-GC without derivatization and split injection. What are the profits to make this analysis with derivatization??
Thanks

There seem to be some people who can do GC of FA directly (sorry, no ref. handy). The conditions to volatilize the acids tend to decarboxylate them. The methyl esters, as an example, are much more volatile since they can not interact via hydrogen bonding. If one gets some routine in the prep. of diazomethane the derivatization is a cinch.
Unless you have a programmable temperature injector, with which you can remove most of the solvent, you need to use splitting.
