I would like to equip a new small HPLC lab with a practical handbook on LC troubleshooting. I have decided on Troubleshooting LC Systems by J. Dolan and L. Snyder but the last edition is from 1989 and it costs quite a lot here. I wonder if there is a new edition planned soon. Could any other good and practical book mainly on troubleshooting (so far only reversed-phase LC is used) be recommended? I have already bought "Practical HPLC Method Development, 2nd ed. by Snyder, Kirkland and Glajch.

There currently is not a new edition of this book planned. You'll find that by design, the book concentrates on problems and solutions in a generic sense, rather than a specific sense (e.g., it deals with how to fix check valves, not how to fix check valves for Shimadzu 10ADVP pumps). What this means is that most of the information isn't out of date, because the principles and basic problems and causes haven't changed a bit. If you rely on the Snyder/Kirkland/Glajch book for the latest in small particle column information, you should have a good set. And don't forget the resource of the LC Troubleshooting columns in LC/GC.

Dear Dr. Dolan!
Thank you for your fast reply. I hoped that your book is somehow a "collection" of your LC/GC Troubleshooting columns. I read LC/GC Intn and collect the Troubleshooting columns but I have only those from 1998-1999 and some older from 1994-95. I personally guessed that the information your book provides is not out of date but I was asked by those who are going to pay for it. Is it possible to get a list of LC/GC Troubleshooting columns published so far so that one can order those of interest? Since I do not know anybody who would have the complete collection. The advantage of LC/GC Intn is that it is free of charge for chromatographers. I only would like to add that I enjoy reading your columns though it took a long time (one month) to get the next number. In this respect Chromatography Forum seems to be a wonderful and much faster means of help. Thanks.
