Hello,

Does anybody know how can I detect low level oxygenates down in 100 ppb, from a mixture of light and heavy H/Cs?

Regards

Mike

Atomic emission detector ? Agilent makes one (G2350 AED)

No..the AED will not be able to detect oxygenates down to 100 ppb...it is simply not sensitive enough for monitoring oxygenates in the O-mode. Maybe in the C-mode, but then you have absolutely no selectivity.

Multidimensional chromatography will do what you require but will also separate other-polar and aromatic HC as well. Separating them selectively will be the problem. With enough sample injected you could use the AED to determine the oxygenates.

This might require micropacked or packed columns instead of capillary columns.

Hi all
Low level oxygenates can be analyzed very well using Lowox technology as developed by Chrompack, now Varian. They supply both the column and a complete dedicated system called Lowox analyzer.
With the analyzer you can measure down to 100 ppb in liquid and gas streams. It used a preseparation while the oxygenates are trapped on a Highly polar LOWOX column. This Lowox column is unique and has temperature stability >350°c. Many applications are available. If you need some details drop me a mail
