I am seeking a utility for converting data files in ASCII text format to AIA format.
Any advice appreciated

Do you have just one file or lots of files? Do you want to do this as a batch process or during a run? Are all of your ASCII files in the same format? Different vendors have implemented the AIA standard differently, so you will need an exact example of the AIA input format you need.
If you just want to batch convert them you could probably just write a small Perl script to do the conversion directly. If you may need to go to different versions of AIA you might consider a batch script to go from ASCII to XML then you use a transform to get the output you need.
Good Luck

I need to convert just a few ASCII files of the same format -a binary array of time and voltage.
I want to import into Agilent .cdf format. Unfortunately I'm no code writer.

Hi Roger,
Sorry it looks like the cdf files use some type of binary encoding.
Take a look at this:
http://hplcusersgroup.tripod.com/faq/cdf2aia.html
Then do a google search for ncdump and ncgen. I think you need the ncgen.exe file. This is a command line utility.

Sorry, I should have stated the obvious first. You should contact you Agilent rep and let him/her know what you want to do. They probably have a utility to do exactly this. Once I needed to compile text based .mac files into a binary format .mcx for security reasons and Agilent gave me the required utility. Let me know if you need a contact person.

Hi, Roger. Advanced Chemistry Development's ChromProcessor will do this. Batchwise would be possible except for the difficulties with ASCII formats being too variable in format, but it with a few clicks you can set up the ASCII import utility.
Please take a look at our web site.
Best regards,
