When my HP diode array detector cell began leaking I suspected the worst. My worst fears were realized when I carefully sawed the cell out of the holder and found a chip blown out of its side. I have epoxied it back in place, but am worried about performance and obviously, weakness of the chip. I believe there is no epoxy covering the window. However, can anyone direct me to a source of used DAD cells? The new ones are too pricey.

Try Mac-Mod Analytical. phone 1-800-441-7508. Their local sales rep may be able to help you locate a good source of used cells. However, I wouldn't recommend used cells, unless you can find a reliable source for rebuilt ones. I've found that they frequently leak, or are contaminated with unknown stuff. And, the path length may not be accurate.

You might look thru LC/GC's ads. There are several places that supply 3rd party or rebuild parts. I know that it is a big business for old Waters equipment (WISP fluid packs, etc), so you might find one that does HP. Or you could call one of these and ask if anyone sells reconditioned HP parts. Another source might be Alpha-Omega that sells lots of reconditioned HP equipment. They should be in the LC/GC buyer's guide (try www.lcgcmag.com and look for the buyers guide online).
