When degassing reagents for chromatography, how long should you purge with helium for?
How long does it last for?
Does it affect reactivity at all?

If you are running a ml/min one 20 minute purge should last for a two liter reservoir without bubbling occurring in the detector. On some types of detectors, you may get baseline noise before the two liters were used up.

Many users purge vigorously to remove the air from their solutions then trickle a small stream of bubbles continuously. If you stop the runs and let the trickle continue, the composition of a mixed solvent will change as the low boiling fluid come out first.
