I received complaints that our Millennium client workstations had become very slow. I was reviewing logs to try to figure out what happened and noticed internet connection requests by service.exe on our firewall. Does Millennium use any spyware?

services.exe is the windows service and controller app and is probably sending out a broadcast to a DHCP server requesting an IP address. Note the plural form services.exe. I believe Millennium uses static IP adressing so I'm not sure why a client would be requesting an IP address.

If you are on a windows machine and go to task manager and have service.exe running then you have a problem and should contact your IT group right away. service.exe is a vairant of the trin00 distributed denial of service agent and is often found with a backdoor program such as Backoriface.

www.cert.org
and the FBI's National Infrastructure Protection page are good places for more info. A google search should take you to either. Good Luck.

Please check your server, too!

We had some problems with Millennium version 4.0, working with oracle. Although waters installed both server and update, we still have problems with the memory space on our server (RAM on the server is used by orcale, but is not cleared afterwards -> memory is full after a certain time and nothing works). Typical effects: Clients become slow, the system breaks down afterwards.
The problem might be caused by a memory leak from oracle.

We close and start the datebase every second week, so the memory space is cleared. Otherwise, we might have trouble every 3 weeks.

Good luck!
Caro
