Hello,
I'd like to know what happens if I wash a diol column with pure water.
And more generally what are the differences between a silica column and a diol column.
Thanks a lot
Mark

A diol column works mainly by hydrogen bonding, just like silica does. Unlike silica, diol is not deactivated by small amounts of water. In fact, I've seen a few compounds that work well in reverse phase on diol.

Mark,
Silica stationary phase is made only by silica.
Diol stationary phase is made by covalent bonding of diol groups on the support surface (generally silica).
