Some water has come into a silica column because of using wrong mobile phase for a few mins.

What can I do now? Should I heat the column or just wash it by some solvents such as methaol?

Thanks!

If it was me, I'd flush through with isopropyl alcohol instead, the "usual" choice as an intermediate solvent between aqueous and non-polar solvents for HPLC.

Not a problem! If there was no salt in the aqueous mobile phase, wash the column with an alcohol. IPA is probably best. If your mobile phase is a straight hydrocarbon, wash with an intermediate solvent such as methylene chloride next. If not, go to your mobile phase and reequilibrate.

It seems ok now. Thank you both!

Water is irreversibility adsorbedonto silica. It can be removed by washing the column with 90/10/2.5 by volume of methylene chloride, acetic acid, and 2,2-dimethoxy-propane.
