I would compare results and performance to the columns you've been using, and document that.

Many columns are delivered with test mixture and test chromatogram, just inject this mixture with the recomended mobile phase, and compare with suppliers results.

We typically calculate N and compare to the suppliers reported N as per test method. N can be calculated by tangent, 5sigma or 2 sigma height. Go to Troubleshooting HPLC authored by the HPLC gods (snyder/Dolan), p91-92.
You will get some interlaboratory variation but overall we fall within +/-10% reported N.
I recall that Millenium has a add-on called system suitability which computes N.
