currently we are measuring height divided by with for a large scale DEAE column 63 cm, but I do not like this measurment, I feel that b/a is a much better indicator of bed degredation etc.
What do others feel? any journals or paper you know of that I can use a fuel for QA?

Height divided by width will depend on retention also. Is this a gradient?

No this is not a gradient , it is a step elution on a 63cm DEAE, currently we measure h / width, and the chart speed is too slow, and the measurements are impossible and I'm not sure they are meaningful even if we speed up the chart.
Isn't b/a a better indicator?

b/a give you info on tailing, but not if the peak has become wider.
I think a simple width measurement would do best.
