Hi All,

This is not a HPLC question but I thought of posting my question here. I just heard about this technique called Elemental Dispersion Spectroscopy for elemental analysis for inorganic elements. Is this the same analysis known as Atomic Absorption Spectroscopy or ICP ? Or is this a different analytical technique and if so any advantages and/or disadvantages with this EDS?
Thanks in advance!

Ananda S.

Ananda,

I'm not familiar with "elemental dispersion", and couldn't find a reference to it, but I thought you may mean "energy dispersive spectroscopy" EDS is used for what you describe above, as we use it to characterize particulate contamination in our products. Here's a link to the Penn State Mat. Sci. lab (go Lions!) to get you started, if this is in fact what you are looking for.

Have a good day!

Hi Joe,

Thank you very much for your relpy. Yes, EDS is Energy Dispersive Spectroscopy but since it is used in elemental analysis some use this name as well.. So basically it is the same technique.

Thanks again and this site is very useful.

Cheers!

Ananda S.
