Hello,
Can anyone give me a commercial source for obtaining human and rat plasma to use for making standards for bioanalytical methods and for in vitro plasma binding studies?
Thanks!

Years and years ago we used to use the lyophylyzed(?) serum that was commonly used as low/normal/high standard materials in medical labs. We got it from Sigma, I believe, and used it in an automated choleinesterase assay. It worked very well for us.
At any rate, look into the medical field for your answer.

Check Sigma under Plasma (or "sera" if plasma is not really mandatory, sera are also found under tissue culture media and reagents).
Bio-Rad is one company that has the standards that ScottF is apparently talking about (Lyphocheck). These usually contain a miriad of analytes preservatives, etc., etc., for all kinds of analytical methods other than HPLC. If used in HPLC you can expect peaks width of an hour or more in some, not all, lots.

We use coarse filtered human serum from a company called Scipac for making our QCs and some standards.

We've purchased human and rat plasma from:
Biological Specialty Corp.
2165 N. Line Street
Colmar, PA 18915
Tel.: 215-997-8771
We've also purchased human plasma from the local Red Cross. Cheaper than BSC but we had problems with delivery.
Best Regards,
Mike
