Has anyone used the Waters Empower Software or Chromsword for developing a HPLC related substances? Does the system work well if (a) you don't know how many related substances you are looking for, and (b) the related substances are less than 0.2% you plan to resolved? Typically, we stress the sample in peroxide and test it using different columns and pHs.

Are you talking about the Automated Method Delveopment System from Waters? If you are, it is not really designed to develop related substance methods. It is not meant to do either situation A or B as you described. FYI, Empower is chromatography data software, not method development software.

I guess he means the Drylab software, it's possible to use this software for related substances, but it isn't ideal.

DryLab is just a part of that method development system, an important part, but just one component.

Components:

Alliance HPLC/PDA
Empower CDS
DryLab
AMDS Software

The AMDS Wizard asks if you would like to work on methods with less than 1% impurities, chiral separation, Ion chromatography... When you check the box you are not able to proceed.
There are a number of other fields that
result in warnings: more than 12 components, diastereomers and others. Here you can proceed.
sorry, up to now no practical experience. Is anywho out there who knows how to add other columns to the AMDS software?
