Hi
Has anyone have any experience with UPS (uninterruptible power source) with LC's, GC's or any other lab instruments? I am looking for opinions to take to my supervisor who thinks UPS is a good idea. I have talked to the Varian service rep and his opinion is that they cause more problems than they solve. What about power conditioners?
thanks
bill

I am currently using a UPS on an old HP3388A integrator so it doesn't lose its memory as I only have two data tapes left. I could see UPS used for the computers of chromatography instruments, which use less power than GC heaters.

I use UPS for agilent 1100 LC and it has been good. Previously I had some runs stopped due to small interferences in a power supply. Thunder also caused me some problems. I haven't seen any problems caused by UPS.

We use UPSs and/or power conditioners on our instruments equipped with MS detectors (both GC and LC) and have not experienced any problems. Just be sure to NOT plug PC monitors or laser printers into the UPS because they draw too much power on startup. Most (all?) UPS manufacturers warn you about this.

Hi:
In our lab, we connected all of uor instruments in UPS. But its important to divided all connection in 20 individuals amps per UPS connection. For GC's connect only one GC per 20 amps UPS connection. For HPLC verify the substraction of how many HPLC module will be connect to the 20 amp UPS without problems.
