Hi,
Hi,
I am still confuse which is the suitable filter membran for different mobile phases.e.g. regenerated cellulose, membran teflon or nylon. Is there any rules of thumb to use suitable filter?/ Any advice is very much appreciated. Thank you very much in advance.
regards,
Steven

Yes, have a look at the Millipore Laboratory Catalogue. There is a good overview on the chemical compatibility of the housing and filter materials (page 5 - 10).

We use PTFE for organic and organic-water mobile phases and nylon for aqueous mobile phases. Those two choices seem to work fine for us.

PVDF filters are generally a good choice. For aqueous solution there are PVDF filters that have been made hydrophilic. It is advisable to wash and wet these with some solvent before use.

Don't use HT-450 filters for mobile phases with THF, Filter is going to dissolve in THF

Ion Chromatography require some extra care. Most filters are optimised for reversed phase where the content of ions is almost without importance. In IC both the mobile phase and samples may be contamined by filters, giving raise to high background conductivity or unexpected peaks.
