Need to make an inject start trigger

Hi all:

I am collecting data via a Sat/In box through Millennium. The problem I am having is the injector we are working with does not have a place for an inject start output that I can use to trigger the Sat/In box to start the run. Does anyone have any idea of a simple way to create a voltage drop that would simulate an inject start signal.

Any help would be appreciated.

Thanks.

What kind of injector are you using?

Are you sure that your injector does not have a start trigger. It would be very unusual for it not to have one.

Mel,

where are you from, maybe you can contact your local Waters dealer.

It is a Lachat FIA system, not HPLC. We are suprised that this system does not have an external inject start signal. I have contacted Waters, in fact I am a former engineer with them. I know there must be a way to make an external device on a timer that would give a contact closure to trigger the Sat/in box.
Thanks for your help.

If you are using manual injection, you could try to fix up a small micro switch wired to the SAT/IN - I guess it is just a contact closure that it needs and not a voltage change (if that is the case, you may need to find a suitable power source to include in the loop).

If the injection system has an automatic injector, you may still be able to use a microswitch for contact closure, but this would require more work to find the best location. You could also just do a manual contact closure yourself (unless the injection system has an autosampler that runs unattended.)
