I have a shodex kc-811 column and was wondering if this hplc might be used for analyzing glucosamine?

This column is an ion exclusion column which means it's a high-capacity strong acid cation exchange resin. A column of this type might be OK for some neutral monosaccharides but forget about using it for cationic carbohydrates. Using an acid eluent system (any cation other than hydronium ion in the eluent will damage the column bed), will result in extremely long retention times. I doubt you could elute glucosamine in 24 hours from such a column unless you are using fairly concentrated acid (at least half molar).
