Hi what mobile phase contents do I require for micelle HPLC. I have a reverse phase column, xterra 4.6 x 50mm. Do I need to get a different column. please help. The mobile phase I normally use is methanol/aqueous ammonium acetate buffer.
thanks.

irfan,
That's a pretty broad question. Any surfactant with a critical micelle concentration can in theory be used for micellar HPLC. Is there some specific reason why you're interested in this technique? Are you interested in surfactants with neutral, ionic or zwitterionic micelles? I have limited experience with this technique but have not yet observed any examples of superior performance when compared to conventional reversed phase.

Hi Chris,
We are planing to measure the LogPmw(Partition coefficent micelle/water). The micelle component I am going to use is Brij35(Polyoxyethylene (23) Lauryl Ether). Which is non-ionic. I have never used this type of HPLC and since I currently have a reverse phase system with a xterra 4.6 x 50mm column and a mobile phase of methanol/ aqueous ammonium acetate buffer. What I actually wanted to know was do I need a different column or can I use the one I am using? What mobile phase do I need, Dose this require a specific mobile phase?
thanks.

irfan,
Can't say I've ever tried this. Here's a reference:
