OK, I've got HP 1050 degasser, and internal vacuum hoses from pump to solenoid valve, etc., are cracked and need replacement. Agilent doesn't seem to have a parts listing. The hoses are about 5/32 inch i.d., so I'm thinking of trying automotive vacuum hose. Am I being a stupid, or does this make sense?

Provided the hose gives a good seal and is about the same internal diameter as the hose you are replacing there should not be a problem, since it is not actually going to hold the vacuum itself.

Tim,
It is going to have to hold the vacuum pressure.

You could use fish tank air hose to do the job. It is thick enough to hold the vacuum and is the correct diameter.

You can check the Agilent web site for part numbers http://www.chem.agilent.com/ or call the toll free number in your country (for North America 1-800-227-9770)for the part number and price.

I did find the diagram of the 1050 degasser on the web. You may want to refer to this diagram to
find the correct part number for the tubing:
http://www.chem.agilent.com/cpdocs/A03504.pdf

Hope that help!

To Anonymous1 - yes and no - it is going to have to hold some vacuum while the pump is on and solenoid open as the pressure is being pulled down, but doesn't contribute to the vacuum being held inside the vacuum chamber once the solenoid is closed, which is the more important aspect.

Joe W. - that's the same ingo that Agilent faxed to me - but that's for a system with helium sparging, which doesn't pull a vacuum so it's not likely it would contain the same tubing. I did pick up some 5/32 inch vacuum hose at the auto parts store, I will probably try that; so far I just cut off the ends with cracks in them, and re-connected, and my red error light went off. But if a few ends crack (from age, high temps over weekends), the others and those in my other degasser won't be far behind.

The confusion may be caused by the two distinct
1050 degasser systems. If your model is the G1303A
(vacuum degasser), there is FEP tubing, 1.5 mm id,
5 meter length--- part #5062-2483.
Hope that helps!
