Hi everyone,
We're having a discussion in the lab about using an after-market stand-alone vacuum degasser for pre-mixed mobile phase that is hexane:isopropyl acetate:acetone (76:17:7). A couple of years ago we tried using it instead of helium degassing and the vacuum degasser stopped working right away and the manufacturer said it would be more cost effective to replace it than repair it. In the degasser manual it says that the solvent only comes into contact with PTFE or PEEK. What do you think? Was it just coincidence that the degasser broke down as soon as I tried degassing that solvent mix? Thanks for your advice.

PEEK has a problem with many organic solvents. Check a PEEK compatibility table before you use it!

Two years ago we bought a vacuum degasser from a large manufacturer and it had to be adapted to work properly with acetonitrile - a simple change/fix of the pipe-work inside the degasser box.
Now you mention your problem - I suspect it was a compatibility problem!!
