Hi, Recently I encountered a error message when working with Waters HPLC Alliance 2695. It says:
"please cycle power Unable to continue dueto error in Vrtx Task oi: Heap exhausted in call to new"
What does that means? My run was stopped during equilibration before my samples was injected. It seemed like when I try to open the carasol door this happens. This is the first time I saw this message.
Could someone give me some suggestion?
Thanks in advance!!!

Dear Leon, here īs my suggestion:
You should not waste any time to understand those error messages. Just call your local Waters Rep. or your Waters service team, resp.

Did you cycle the power as the instrument suggested?

To give you some personal insight in the problem, when I corner and badger a Waters Service rep, they will concede that, in rare cases, a bug in the firmware installed in the Alliance will produce an error message that can be cleared by a power cycle. This is not a very rare occurrence, but not common either.
Leon, you should take the advice that has already been offered here:
1). Cycle power to your Alliance. Shut it off, wait a short while, and turn it on. Remember that this happened, and let someone know if it is a frequent occurrence.
But really, you should be prepared to do this with any scientific instrument, desktop computer, household appliance, whatever. If it is acting strange, cycle power, see if that clears the problem, and make a mental note (or a careful written record of the problem) for the next time it happens. You shouldn't need to ask a message board for more info on this subject. Instruments that use lamps may need a cool off and warm-up time. And systems that require external services (vacuum for a mass spec for example) may need a more controlled shutdown procedure. But outside of those cases, you should be confidant that you can turn a system on and off.
2). Call a Waters Service technician. Tell them every detail of the problem. Ask them if they know what caused the problem. Let them know that you intend to call them whenever this problem comes up. They may know that this is a buggy motherboard, or something, and offer to replace it.
Again, it doesn't matter if it is a Waters Alliance, Perkin Elmer Capillary Electrophoresis, or a noname brand stir plate (OK, I'm exaggerating a little with that last one). You should try to maintain a dialog with the service department. Precisely because this is NOT a household appliance is why you need to be willing and able to talk to the manufacturer on any topic that's important to you.
I don't mean to be critical, but posting a message here on this board isn't the most effective way to use your time if you want to fix your current problem. Maybe you'd like some insight from other users into the problem, and that's OK to ask for, but you really should know what to do already to fix the problem with your instrument.
